Three new season babies contested the opening juvenile heat of the season with McEvoy's Foxwedge colt taking on two David Payne-trained fillies, Magic By Design, a daughter of Master Of Design, and Wah Tootsie, a daughter of Myboycharlie.

Wah Tootsie was the first of the trio to leave the barriers and took up the running in the trial from Chain Shot, ridden by Hugh Bowman, with Magic By Design settling at the tail with the three inexperienced gallopers travelling in single file.

Rounding the home turn, Wah Tootsie hung away from the rail presenting a run for Chain Shot to its inside.

Chain Shot strode to the front with 300 metres to run and was holding Wah Tootsie until the colt shied at the infield semaphore board, but on the line held a narrow margin with a gap back to Magic By Design.

Chain Shot covered the 900 metres in 56 seconds and on the line held a nose margin over Wah Tootsie with 2-1/2 lengths back to Magic By Design.

Chain Shot is out of the imported mare Spinnaker (GB) and was purchased for $95,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.

The upcoming Sydney two-year-old trials will be held at Randwick on September 7, Warwick Farm on September 11, Rosehill on September 15 before the official Sydney two-year-old trials are conducted at Randwick on September 21.

The first races for the babies will be conducted at Randwick on October 3 when the $150,000 Breeders Plate (1000m) will be contested by the colts and geldings and the fillies will clash in the $150,000 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m).
