Explosive
sprinter Nicconi posted his ninth winner at Bendigo on Wednesday when Zambezi
Diamond saluted and very nearly added a tenth when Western Desert chased Club
Star home for second at the same venue earlier in the day.
Prepared by Brendan McCarthy and ridden by Chris Symons, Zambezi Diamond was
desperately unlucky when beaten into second on debut at Sale last month, but
made amends quickly with this stylish length victory in the 1100 metre maiden
as favourite.
A modest $20,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft, Zambezi
Diamond has maintained the perfect record of her dam Miss Zambezi, who has left
an impressive seven foals to race all winners.
Zambezi Diamond joins a growing list of winners for Nicconi, who blossomed as a
three year-old with expectation his progeny may well do the same.
A dual Group I winning sprinter, Nicconi stands at a reduced fee this year of
$13,200.
