Savabeel three-year-old Ray's Girl (NZ) bounced back to winning form yesterday at Riccarton taking her first stakes victory in the $50,000 Listed Ekraar at Linwood Park Canterbury Stakes (1600m).
The 19th stakes winner for Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning sire Savabeel(pictured) ,
Ray's Girl (ex Natural Rhythm) was unplaced in her stakes debut in the Listed
Fordell O'Leary Fillies Stakes and ran a tough second at her last start to
Misstrum (Stratum) in the Listed Soliloquy Stakes.
Yesterday's race saw a top performance from the Rudy Liefting trained filly, coming from off the pace with David Walker in the saddle and producing a big turn-of-foot to race past her rivals to win by just under three lengths.
Bred and sold by Waikato Stud, Ray's Girl was a bargain purchase, picked up by Bosher Farms at the 2011 Karaka Select Sale for just $6,000. Raced by Harold Bosher, the filly has won two of her seven starts for just under $50,000 in stakes.
A brother to Ray's Girl was purchased by Tony Cole at this year's 2012 Karaka Select Sale for $22,000.
