Woodlands received little joy for the $500,000 it outlaid for the former top racemare Rose Of Danehill at the 2005 Easter Broodmare sale and she may well have been lucky to survive the purge when Darley took control.
The faith shown by Darley was repaid at Moonee Valley on Friday when Rose Of Danehill's seventh foal Kazanluk became her first stakes-winner with an impressive victory in the Group 2 Jeep Fillies Classic (1600m).
The daughter
of Red Ransom (USA) (pictured) had a lone maiden handicap win at Geelong from her 4 starts
although she was coming off a fighting third in a Listed stakes in Adelaide.
Winning rider Kerrin McEvoy said he was unsure if connections plan on heading to the Victorian Oaks.
"We got a nice cart into it and she was the winner at the 600," McEvoy said.
"Daniel Moor gave her a glowing report the other morning so thank you to him for his efforts and she has won nicely." "She's a nice filly, has missed a run so I'm not sure if she will make it to the Oaks but she's got a bright future.
Trained by Anthony Freedman, Kazanluk takes her overall record to 2 wins and 1 third from 5 starts for earnings of $154,750.
Her dam, Rose Of Danehill, was a multiple Group 2 winner and runner-up in the VATC OneThousand Guineas (G1) and Blue Diamond Stakes(G1).
Her wins included the Reisling Slipper (G2) a race also won by her dam Beach Gown (Cerreto).
In addition to Rose Of Danehill, Beach Gown also left the William Reid Stakes (G1) winner Wrap Around (Bletchingly) the granddam of the outstanding mare Fashions Afield (Redoute's Choice) whose victories included the AJC Flight Stakes (G1), Sires' Produce Stakes (G1) as well as Reisling Slipper (G2). She was also second in the Golden Slipper (G1) and AJC Champagne Stakes (G1).
While Kazanluk is the first stakes-winner for Rose Of Danehill, she did produce the talented stakes-placed gelding The Ruffian (Lonhro).
Rose Of Danehill has a yearling colt by Street Cry (Ire) and a colt foal by New Approach (Ire).
