Angel Lights Up the Night
Tara Madgwick - Friday, 26 October 2012

The first Black Type event at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate eve was the Listed MVRC Crockett Stakes with victory going to lightly raced Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) filly Angelic Light.

Prepared by Robbie Griffiths, Angelic Light was well fancied by punters following two facile wins at Kilmore and Echuca since resuming from a spell and repaid their faith with a thrilling win.

She settled off the pace for Michael Rodd, who waited patiently for an inside run and when the split came, Angelic Light (pictured Racepix Vic) charged along the fence to post a three-quarter length victory in the 1200 metre sprint.

"She's still very green and has a lot to learn, so I wanted to wait for the run rather than go around them," Rodd said.

"She's very talented and has come a long way in a short time."

A $30,000 Inglis Premier purchase for her trainer from the draft of Northern Lodge, Angelic Light has the overall record of three wins and a second from just four starts and has earned more than $100,000 in prizemoney.

"She has a huge group of owners including four big syndicates, so there are a lot of happy people and it increases the crowd," quipped stable representative Don Healy.

"Robbie picked her out as a yearling and he does a great jpb."

Bred by Northern Lodge, Angelic Light is the best of four winners from stakes-winning Fuji Kiseki (Jpn) mare Flashed, who died earlier this year leaving a yearling filly by Sebring.

Angelic Light is the 20th stakes-winner for Coolmore shuttler Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), who has enjoyed a very good season in Europe this year, albeit falling well short of that standard in the Southern Hemisphere.

The last Australian bred progeny of Holy Roman Emperor are yearlings.
