A $5,000 yearling purchase with a million dollar pedigree made a winning career debut at Dubbo on Sunday.
The aptly named Great Choice made short work of his 13 opponents in the 1000 metre scamper. Ridden by Kody Nestor for Mudgee based trainer Brett Thompson, Great Choice cleared away too win by three and three quarter lengths.

Stakes (G1) winner Hollow Bullet, Great Choice obviously had his issues as a
yearling.
Instead of heading to the Inglis Easter Yearling sale like his older brother, Great Choice was consigned to the 2011 Scone Yearling sale. He was a blueblood in a blue collar sale and it took a bid of just $5,000 to find a new owner. Two years earlier his full brother made $845,000 more and was headed off to race in Japan where he has proved quite successful.
Named Ranryoo he races in the colours of Kazumi Yoshida. He has won four and placed in 8 of his 16 starts for earnings of $1.2 million. Ranryoo made his 2012 debut at Hanshin last Saturday finishing second to promising Deep Impact colt Frere Jacques who placed in last year's Kobe Shimbun Hai (G2).
The third foal out of Hollow Bullet, a colt by Hussonet, will also do his racing in Japan after being purchased by Kazumi Yoshida for $100,000 at this year's Easter Yearling sale.
Hollow Bullet has a yearling filly by Snitzel and was bred back to Redoute's Choice last year.
