Germany Lose a Champion Sire
Tara Madgwick - Thursday, 13 September 2012

Champion German sire Monsun has been euthanized at age 22.

The son of Konigsstuhl, who suffered from blindness in his later years, was put down at his long-term home of Gestüt Schlenderhan near Cologne in Germany after suffering from a severe neurological disease.

Monsun (pictured) was the sire of 91 stakes-winners including 14 Group I winners led by 2007 world champion Manduro, Shirocco and Stacelita.

Monsun figured prominently at Royal Ascot this year, where he sired the Queen's Vase winner Estimate and Tercentenary Stakes scorer Energizer, and featured as damsire of Gold Cup winner Colour Vision, who is entered for this year's Melbourne Cup.
