It's
not easy to win four races straight in the metropolitan area and horses that
can do it are obviously a great advertisement for their sire.
One such horse is four year-old gelding Destiny's Kiss, who posted his fourth
consecutive win at the Mornington metro meeting in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Prepared by Robert Smerdon, Destiny's Kiss(pictured Racepix Vic) was ridden closer to the pace for
his first attempt at 2000 metres and dug deep under pressure to hold on and win
the Ratings 82 event by a half a neck.
From the first crop of young Danehill (USA) sire Power of Destiny, Destiny's
Kiss has produced a smooth progression through the grades winning over 1500,
1600 and 1800 metres before this latest victory.
"He's in a good place at the moment and he makes his own luck," said Robert Smerdon.
"We'll see how he pulls up, although he's done a great job for now and I'd be
happy enough to put him away for the winter."
Destiny's Kiss has the impressive record of five wins and two placings from 11
starts with earnings just shy of $108,818.
A homebred for Nick Moraitis, Destiny's Kiss is one of two winners from
stakes-placed Stravinsky (USA) mare A Fairy's Kiss, a sister to stakes-winner
Miss Scarlatti from Group II winning Zabeel mare Crimson.
There is plenty of staying blood in this family which also features Group I VRC
Derby winner Omnicorp, so it's no wonder Destiny's Kiss has progressed to
winning at a mile and a quarter.
Destiny's Kiss is the best performer to date by Power of Destiny, who is owned
by Mr Moraitis and stands at Macquarie Stud under the care of David Baxter.
With his oldest progeny just four year-olds, Power of Destiny is the sire of 15
winners from just 32 starters.
Mr Moraitis is delighted with what Power of Destiny has done so far and is
optimistic about the future.
"He is a beautiful horse and being by Danehill from a Sadler's Wells mare, he
has the best of bloodlines so I was keen to give him his chance at stud,"
Moraitis said.
"He's covered mostly my mares so hasn't had big numbers, but has still sired 15
winners of 24 races, their earnings nearing $450,000.
"He throws a magnificent type with great bone. They need a bit of time as they
aren't two year-olds as you would expect, but I have no doubts that they will
only get better and better as they mature."
