Promising Win for Dylan Filly
Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 9 September 2012

Champion racehorse Dylan Thomas (IRE) was represented by a promising winner at Bendigo on Sunday with well bred filly Sullen Art, showing real staying potential with a powerful win.

Having just her third start, the Leon Corstens trained filly was jumping up sharply in distance from 1200 metres to a mile and despite wanting to race keenly in the early stages, she found the line with much enthusiasm.

Under a skilled ride from Damien Oliver, Sullen Art (pictured Racepix Vic) pulled away to win by more than a length and will be better for the experience.

Entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas, Sullen Art probably appeals more as an Oaks filly and certainly has the pedigree for it.

A $140,000 purchase from the Westbury Stud draft at the 2011 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Sullen Art is a half-sister to stakes-winner Tagine being one of five winners from Circles of Ice, whose dam National Song is a half-sister to Group I AJC Australian Oaks winner Circles of Gold, the dam of Group I VRC Derby winner Elvstroem.

It's also the family of champion miler Haradasun and champion sprinter Starspangledbanner, so Sullen Art has enough on the page to make her a very valuable breeding prospect if she can win some Black Type.

Dylan Thomas stands at Coolmore this spring at a bargain fee of $13,750.
