Sad Passing of Theatrical
Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 2 September 2012

Veteran sire Theatrical is well known to Australians having sired Melbourne Cup winner Media Puzzle and Victoria Derby winner Portland Player, the son of Nureyev euthanized at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in the US on the weekend.

Theatrical had been pensioned since 2009 and was put to sleep at age 30 due to the infirmities of old age.

"We were honored to stand Theatrical and have him at Hill 'n' Dale for the past 11 years," said John G. Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale Farms.

"He was not only a great stallion, but had become like a member of our
family. Our staff has done a fantastic job with the horse and cared for him so personally in his retirement, hand grazing him and tending to his every need. I want to thank Michael Paulson for giving us the opportunity to stand this wonderful horse. I'd also like to thank the entire Theatrical syndicate for their support."

A multiple Group I winner, Theatrical (pictured) was the sire of 80 stakes-winners, 20 of those Group I winners and his daughters have left an impressive 58 stakes-winners, so he has certainly left a fine legacy.
