Emerging sire Duke Of
Marmalade (IRE) produced his fifth individual first crop winner when his
daughter Asgardella claimed a narrow victory on debut over 1400m in the UK on
Tuesday.
Having raced greenly in the early stages and been baulked for a run when
beginning her effort midway down the straight, the Richard Fahey trained filly
showed an admirable attitude in the closing stages to knuckle down and snatch
victory from the jaws of defeat.
Asgardella is a daughter of the King Of Kings mare Peaceful Kingdom, herself a
half-sister to the G1 winning colt Magistretti. The win of Asgardella is
another fine example of the rapport that Duke Of Marmalade is establishing with
Sadler's Wells line mares, with two of his recent maiden scorers, Shake The
Barley and Starbright, both being produced from daughters of Galileo.
Duke Of Marmalade has had just a handful of runners to date, but as well as the
aforementioned trio, he also numbers the group performed colt Count Of Limonade
and the unbeaten French filly Morning Frost amongst his leading progeny.
Duke Of Marmalade(pictured), a five-time G1 winning son of Danehill, hails from one of
the best sire producing families in the world.
His dam, the group placed two-year-old Love Me True, is a three-parts sister to
the top sire Lemon Drop Kid and Duke Of Marmalade is also closely related to
champion sire A. P. Indy, as well as the likes of quality stallions Al Mufti
and Summer Squall.
His first Australasian yearlings were widely sought after in 2012, realising up
to $420,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and are set to be trained by
many of Australasia's leading conditioners.
Duke Of Marmalade will stand the 2012 season at Coolmore Australia at a fee of
$22,000 (incl. GST).
