A son of leading sire More Than Ready (USA), Sumarand started a red hot favourite and blitzed his rivals to win the 1300 metre maiden as he pleased.
A $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gai Waterhouse from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Sumarand (pictured as a yearling) runs for Kevin Maloney's Segenhoe Thoroughbreds Australia Syndicate.
The second highest priced colt sold in 2011 at Easter by More Than Ready, he is a half-brother to stakes-winner Dissolved and is the third winner for ill-fated Yarralumla, who died in 2010.
A half-sister to Grand Armee, Yarralumla came from a first class family featuring additional Group I stars such as Drum, Anamato and Dealer Principal, so connections will be hoping Sumarand can follow in their illustrious footsteps as he has been entered for the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate.
