Special Win for Lady Searcy
Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 25 July 2012

Owner breeders David and Kathy Mackintosh are unabashed fans of TVN presented Caroline Searcy and it is in her honour that three year-old Danerich filly Lady Searcy was named.

The progressive filly broke her maiden last start at Geelong and went right on with it at The Metropolitan meeting at Mornington on Wednesday, leading throughout with Jake Noonan in the saddle to win the 1200 metre ratings 72 event by five lengths.

Trained by Carole Heffernan, Lady Searcy (pictured Racepix Vic) has won two of seven starts and is unbeaten since resuming from a spell.

"I thought coming here with no weight, she would run a good race," Jake Noonan said.

"She surprised me how well she did it. She never looked like getting threatened. I'm sure she'll go on with it too."

It was the first metropolitan success as a trainer for Carole Heffernan, who was understandably delighted.

"It's an emotional win," she said.

"I just want to thank my daughter Paige that rides all her work. She couldn't be here today as she had to work, but she's done a great job."

Lady Searcy's elated owner/breeder David Mackintosh was on hand to watch his filly win and was quick to mention her namesake.

"She (Caroline Searcy) is number one, she should be down here, not in Sydney," he quipped.

Pictured as a foal at Rangal Park in 2008, Lady Searcy is the third winner from Deadwood Stage, a half-sister by Cavalry to stakes-placed Deadwood City.

"We raced the mother Deadwood Stage and she was a very speedy mare in Tasmania, so we thought Danerich would be a good match for her," Mackintosh said.

Deadwood Stage has an unraced two year-old gelding by Danerich called Kelvy that is also trained by Carole Heffernan and a weanling colt by the same sire.

Mr Mackintosh is obviously well pleased with what he has already from the mating and has booked Deadwood Stage back to Danerich this spring.
