New Stakes Winner for Elusive Quality
Mark Smith - Saturday, 21 July 2012

The Bob Peters homebred Elusive Image became the fourth stakes-winner from the penultimate Australian conceived crop of Elusive Quality (USA) when he came with a barnstorming finish to capture Saturday's Listed Belmont Classic at Belmont Park.

It was a welcome return to form for the 3yo gelding who was reunited with William Pike for the first time since his last win at Ascot on April 7.

"He was always travelling nice in the run, he was cruising up," Pike said.

"I was getting really lovely track up, just a pair behind (odds-on favourite) Rastorini. He was giving me a really god feel and I was half pinching myself wondering if he was going to give me what he had. To his credit he gave me a really good 100 metre sprint."

A half-brother to Belmont Oaks (LR) winner New Image (More Than Ready (USA), Elusive Image is the seventh foal of the 1999 Western Australian Oaks (G2) winner Reflected Image (Bluebird).

Bob Peters revealed Reflected Image is back in foal to More Than Ready (USA) after foaling a filly by the Vinery stallion last year.

Elusive Quality (USA) stood his sixth and final season in 2008. He covered a career high 173 mares in the EI year of 2007 and it's arguably his most successful crop.

The headline act has been 4-time Group 1 winner Sepoy who will begin his own stud career at Darley stud this spring.
