At a cost of $200,000, Norzita was the most expensive lot by champion New Zealand stallion Thorn Park at the 2011 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale at Karaka but she looked worth every cent following a most impressive victory in Saturday's Woolworths Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens.
At her career debut at Gosford on July 4, the Bart Cummings trained filly gave her rider a torrid time before finishing strongly for fifth. Better behaved with Glyn Schofield in the saddle, Norzita held the challenge of the royally bred race favourite Seaside (Redoute's Choice) by one and a quarter lengths with a half length back to the promising colt Clever Boy (Street Sense) in third.
Schofield believes the winner has a bright future.
"Just looking at her for the first time, what a beautiful filly," said Schofield.
"Obviously the old man has not lost his touch and while he has been a little bit quiet I think they are going to have a bit of fun with this one."
Carrying the well-known colours of long-time stable patron Dato Tan Chin Nam, Norzita (pictured as a yearling) is a full-sister to the Listed stakes-winner Hollows. She is third live foal of the winning Quest For Fame mare Visique whose dam Dulcinea is a three-quarter-sister to Debutante Stakes (LR) winner Cloister, the dam of dual Group 1 winner Melito who was recently sold to Coolmore's Tom Magnier for $1.65 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare sale.
Dulcinea is a daughter of blue hen Summoned, the dam of five stakes-winners including the 5-time Group 1 winner and successful stallion Zeditave.
