First Stakes Success For Segenhoe's Irish Dream
Mark Smith - Saturday, 14 July 2012

Kevin Maloney's Segenhoe Stud has been a major player at the top end of the market at yearling and broodmare sales in the past few years and in the scheme of things the $150,000 outlaid for the Falbrav mare Irish Dream at the 2011 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale was one of its more moderate purchases.

At the same sale Segenhoe purchased Sister Madly for $1 million. The winner of two of her 15 starts and runner-up in the Listed Just Now Quality for Gillian Heinrich before her sale, Irish Dream was transferred to Peter Moody for whom she won a further a further four times before she was sent to Ron Quinton after failing in a Listed race in Adelaide.

At her second start for Quinton she finished third behind the promising Eucumbene at Rosehill before a close-up second behind Al's Gold over 1500 metres at the same track at her most recent start.

Sent out a $12 chance in Saturday's $100,000 Tabsportsbet Winter Stakes (1400m) the 5yo mare came with a well-timed run under Glyn Schofield to earn some valuable black-type (photo Steve Hart).

Originally a $57,500 purchase by Heinrich Bloodstock at the 2008 Inglis Classic Yearling sale, Irish Dream takes her overall record to 6 wins, 6 seconds and 2 thirds from 29 starts for earnings of $231,475.

She is the first foal of the French winner Queen Emma (Irish River) a half sister to the multiple Listed winner and Nassau Stakes (G2) runner-up Entice (Selkirk).

Queen Emma has a yearling colt by Bianconi (USA) a weanling filly by Desert King (IRE) and was bred back to Mosayter (USA) last year.

Irish Dreams comes from the second crop of 41 live foals sired by Falbrav (IRE).

The eight time Group 1 winning son of Fairy King struggled with patronage in his three seasons at Arrowfield Stud.

His first crop included the Karrakatta Plate (G2) winner Brava Fortune and the richly talented Fravashi a dual Group 2 winner.
