Two-Year-Old Double for Fastnet Rock at Rosehill
Mark Smith - Saturday, 7 July 2012

Champion stallion elect Fastnet Rock has enjoyed a record-breaking season thanks, in the main, to a superb three-year old crop, however the son of Danehill is also enjoying a phenomenal late season surge with his two-year olds.

There were two divisions for two-year olds at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and the progeny of Fastnet Rock won both.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Sherocksmyworld put a disappointing run at Scone behind her when she scored a hard-fought short-neck victory over the well-backed Soapbox (Exceed And Excel) in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1100m) (photo Steve Hart).

It was the second win in five starts for the daughter of Fastnet Rock who had won at Canterbury after placing at Rosehill at her first two starts.

A $200,000 purchase by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds' Julian Blaxland from the Toolooganvale Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale, Sherocksmyworld is the first foal of the Bertolini mare Solvini, who won two Group 3 races in New Zealand for Stephen McKee before spending a short-time in Melbourne for Lee Freedman.

Solvini is a daughter of the Brisbane winner Paris Sky (Paris House) a half-sister to Group 1 winner Culminate (Elnadim) and to the dams of Group 1 winners Captivate and Eileen Dubh.

Solvini has a weanling filly by Undoubtable and was covered by Star Witness at Widden Stud last year.

Last start Warwick Farm winner Your Song became the second two-year old winner at Rosehill with a sparkling performance in the Pluck@Vinery Handicap (1400m).

The length and a half-victory over the regally bred Encosta de Lago filly Forever Crazy had trainer Anthony Cummings plotting a campaign aimed at the $1 million Golden Rose with the promising colt.

"He'll go up and spend 10 days or so at the water walker now and then we'll bring him back for the spring," Cummings said.

"Races like the Golden Rose are targets if he takes the next step which I expect he will."

The Gooree Park Stud homebred is the second foal of the Fuki Kiseki (Jpn) mare Zembu, whose regally-bred dam Wanice is a Mr Prospector half-sister to champion racehorse and seven-time Group I winner Fantastic Light.
Zembu has a yearling colt by Street Sense (USA) and a weanling colt by Fastnet Rock and is due to foal to Street Sense (USA) this spring.
