Dude Back In Town
Mark Smith - Saturday, 23 June 2012

New Zealand-bred gelding Ginga Dude made 33 starts over a period of three years before trainer Graeme Boyd ventured across the Tasman for the first time in October 2010 and Ginga Dude rewarded the initiative by romping home in the Coongy Handicap (G3).

Following that effort, Ginga Dude finished third behing the champion So You Think and Descarado in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes before Manighar edged him out for third place in Zipping's SandownClassic (G2).

If he has failed to reach those heights again, the rising 9yo gelding showed with his fighting victory in Saturday's Group III Tattersall's Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm he is far from washed up.

Given a glorious ride by Hugh Bowman, Ginga Dude held the challenge of another Kiwi, Booming (Don Eduardo) by a length with a nose back to the fast finishing Warrior Within (King Cugat).

"Hugh just rode him so beautifully, he's just a master," winning trainer Graeme Boyd told Sky Racing World. "It's all credit to him getting the horse across on the fence and putting him in that position.

"He's been knocking on the door and it's very exciting."

"I'll go back to Coffs Harbour and prepare him on the beach there and get him back for the spring," he said.

"I had him at Coffs Harbour before he came up here and I thought he was as well as he's ever been.

"We'll just potter around the beaches and maybe look at a race like the Wyong Cup but we'll just see what weight he gets."

In chalking up his sixth stakes victory Ginga Dude takes his overall record to 15 5 9 53 $1,142,880. That's a good return for Boyd who owns Ginga Dude with his partner Raewyn Yovich.

Bred by Willow Park Ltd, Ginga Dude is by Blue Gum Lodge stallion Istidaad (Chief's Crown) out of the winning Clay Hero mare Clatitude who descends from the family of Champion Stakes (G1) winner Sakana and Group 3 winner Rohatyn.

Clatitude has a an unraced 2yo filly by Any Suggestion, a yearling filly by Ekraar and weanling colt by the same stallion.

She was bred back to Istidaad last year.
