Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 23 June 2012

2008 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown (USA), whose oldest Australian progeny are weanlings, was represented by his first winner at Kazan International Equestrian Complex and Race Track in Russia last Friday.

Two year-old filly Ruby Brown was making her first start on June 15 andeasily won the 1000 meter maiden race by three lengths.

Bred by Coffee Pot Stables & The Big Brown Syndicate, Ruby Brown was ridden by jockey Mirbek Mamurov and is trained by Marat Kozhomzharov.

Consigned by Beau Lane Bloodstock, agent, she is from the Red Ransom mare Truly Ruby and was a $15,000 yearling at the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, purchased by Stella Prima.

"We're thrilled about Big Brown's first runner being a winner and we're hearing exciting updates about the Big Brown's in training, some of which are coming up to their first start in the coming weeks," said Case Clay, the president of Three Chimneys, which is the US home of Big Brown.

Eclipse Champion Big Brown (pictured)  is represented by his first US bred two-year-olds this year. He was the Leading Freshman Sire at Fasig-Tipton's July Yearling Sale in 2011 and was represented by a colt out of Cool Ghoul who sold for $1.3 million earlier this year at the Fasig-Tipton March Two-Year-Old Sale.

Big Brown shuttles to Vinery Stud in Australia and has three youngsters listed for sale at the Inglis Australian Select Weanling Sale next week. Click here for pedigrees.
