One of Australia's most successful and well known racehorse owners is about to share a secret.
Sydney based owner Nick Moraitis has enjoyed much success over the years with his champion racehorse Might and Power and the supremely talented colt Exceed and Excel, who is now a leading sire, but the horse that has him excited at present is his young sire Power of Destiny.
A Group II placed son of Danehill (USA) and full brother to successful young WA based sire Saxon, Power of Destiny stands at Macquarie Stud and has been quietly going about siring winners including metropolitan performers Trojan Destiny and Destiny's Kiss.
With his oldest progeny about to turn four, Mr Moraitis is delighted with what Power of Destiny (pictured) has done so far and is optimistic about the future.
"He is a beautiful horse and being by Danehill from a Sadler's Wells mare, he has the best of bloodlines so I was keen to give him his chance at stud," Moraitis said.
"He's covered mostly my mares so hasn't had big numbers, but has still sired seven winners of ten races with a further 10 horses placed from just 28 runners, their earnings topping $200,000.
"He throws a magnificent type with great bone. They need a bit of time as they aren't two year-olds as you would expect, but I have no doubts that they will only get better and better as they mature."
The best performers so far for Power of Destiny have been the Moraitis owned Trojan Destiny and Destiny's Kiss (pictured Racepix Vic)), the pair winning at Canterbury and Moonee Valley, while improving filly Destiny's Angel won impressively at Hawkesbury last Monday for the Joe Pride stable.
Until now, Power of Destiny has been largely a private stallion for Mr Moraitis, but that will change next week when a large consignment of some 37 weanlings and yearlings by the young stallion will be offered by Macquarie Stud at the Inglis Weanling and Bloodstock Sale in addition to some 23 mares also covered by the sire.
"There are some very good types in the draft and they are well worth inspecting," said David Baxter of Macquarie Stud.
"We will be travelling down to Sydney next Monday and they will be available for inspection from Tuesday morning."
Included in the draft is Lot 254, a weanling full brother to Destiny's Angel, who has won since the catalogue went to print and comes from the family of Group I STC Coolmore Classic winner Danni Martine.
Also of interest Lot 299, a weanling three-quarter sister-in-blood to Canterbury winner Trojan Destiny from young Bel Esprit mare Princess Sparkle, whose yearling colt by Power of Destony will be offered as Lot 598.
All weanlings and yearlings by Power of Destiny are of course BOBS eligible and for more information contact David Baxter on 0417 800 002.
