Three
year-old Anabaa (USA) gelding Sea Diamond made it three wins from four starts
when he scored a stylish half length win over 1400 metres at Sha Tin onSaturday.
Trained by John Moore and partnered by Tim Clark, Sea Diamond scored easily on
debut at Sha Tin on April 1, before finishing a close third at his second start
and has won both starts since stamping himself as a bright prospect for the
future.
"He's just a big baby
who doesn't quite know what he's doing," John Moore told the South China
Morning Post.
"The second horse Classic Jewellery is no slouch and they beat the rest
easily. Sea Diamond isn't winning like he's some superstar, but he is winning
frequently and he's doing everything a little better each time he runs.
"He has improved a lot in the gates since we got the barrier blanket for
him and is more relaxed in his races now. Tim says the horse is just learning
his trade still but says he'll run a mile later on. He'll have one more and
that will do for this season."
Sea Diamond (pictured as a yaerling) was purchased for $200,000 from the Widden draft at Easter in 2010
and is the first foal of stakes-placed Zafonic mare Apamea (GB), a half-sister
to stakes-winner Angelina Carolina tracing directly in tail female line to
legendary matriarch Best in Show (USA).
The second foal from Apamea is a striking chestnut yearling filly by Sebring
that fetched $240,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when
snapped up by Paul Willetts.
Apamea is being given every opportunity to succeed at stud and has a Stratum
weanling colt and was covered again by Stratum last year.
Winning earlier on the program was five year-old More Than Ready (USA) gelding
Happy Cha Cha, who posted his sixth victory in Hong Kong when saluting over 1650
metres by a length and a half.
A $120,000 purchase for Apollo Ng from the Widden draft at the 2008 Inglis
Premier Yearling Sale, Happy Cha Cha is a half-brother to stakes-placed First
Course being from Short 'n' Sweep, a half-sister by End Sweep (USA) to
stakes-winner Blizzardly.
