Fast 'N' Famous Filly Claims Queensland Oaks
Mark Smith - Saturday, 2 June 2012

The John Sargent-trainedQuintessential (NZ) became the first Group 1 winner for her Waikato Stud based sire Fast 'N' Famous when she led home a Kiwi 1-2-3 in Saturday's $400,000 Treasury Casino Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm.

Given a perfect ride by Damian Browne, Quintessential defeated the Chris Waller-trained outsider Eliza Blues (O'Reilly) by 2-1/4 lengths with OTI recruit Vittoria (Postponed) a further 1-1/2 lengths away in third.

"It's always hard to win here let alone a Group I," Sargent told Sky Racing World. "It was a lovely ride and that meant a hell of a lot.

"He (Browne) rode her perfectly. Got off at the six hundred and it all paid. It was a real slog but she got there in the end."

Owned by Nearco Stud, Quintessential became the first stakes-winner for Fast 'n' Famous when she captured the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes (1600m). She later finished third behind Miss Artistic in the NZ Oaks (G1) at Trentham on March 17.

Purchased by bloodstock agent Adrian Clark, for $70,000 at the 2010 NZ Select Yearling Sale at Karaka, Quintessential takes her overall record to 4 wins, 1 second and 3 thirds from 11 starts for earnings of $348,448.

Bred by the world famous Trelawney Stud, she is the fifth foal of the unraced, imported Sword Dance mare Florette (USA), a three-quarter or half-sister to seven stakes winners.

The same year Clark signed for Quintessential he also purchased Florette from Trelawney for $18,000.

A Group 3 winner and second to Magnus in the Group 1 The Galaxy, Fast 'N' Famous is a son of Redoute's Choice out of the dual stakes-winning Zabeel mare Zalinda who descends from the prolific Betty Box family.

Fast 'N' Famous will stand the upcoming season at Waikato Stud for a fee of $6,000 (+GST).
