Third Winner for Haradasun
Tara Madgwick - Friday, 4 May 2012

Champion racehorse Haradasun sired his third individual first crop winner when the Gerald Ryan trained colt Santa Fe Sun posted an impressive debut effort to win over 1000m at Muswellbrook on Friday.

Sent off favourite on the back of an encouraging trial behind another exciting Haradasun two-year-old in the Gai Waterhouse trained Kabayan, Santa Fe Sun was forced to race wide for much of the race before joining the leaders midway down the straight and streaking clear to win by a widening three and a half length margin.

Trainer Gerald Ryan has always held a high opinion of the well bred colt(pictured as a yearling), who he purchased on behalf of overseas clients for $80,000 at the second session of the 2011 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Holbrook Thoroughbreds.

"He's a lovely horse and has always shown me plenty," said Ryan.

"He's a great, big, strong horse that will have no problem with a mile and I think there's a good race in him. I'll map out his runs with the G1 TJ Smith in Brisbane in mind, but if he tells me he wants a break, I'll give it to him because he's going to be better again next season."

Santa Fe Sun is the second winner from two to race for Group II placed Bianconi (USA) mare But I'm Serious, who has been a regular visitor to Coolmore sires and has a weanling colt by Henrythenavigator (USA) and was covered by Lookin at Lucky (USA) last spring.

This win for Santa Fe Sun follows quickly on the back of wins for promising Haradasun sired pair Hot Fever and Harada Bay, while the Gai Waterhouse trained gelding Kabayan is one of the most talked about two-year-olds in Sydney following a pair of impressive trial wins and is nominated for Wyong next week.

Haradasun, a triple Group I winning miler and champion in both Australia and Europe will stand the 2012 at Coolmore Australia with his fee recently announced at $16,500 including GST.
