Promising
staying prospect Order of the Sun did not enjoy the wet tracks in Sydney at his
recent runs, but the son of champion sire Encosta de Lago returned to form to
give Sun Bloodstock a sensational victory in the Listed VRC St Leger at
Flemington on Friday.
Prepared by Gai Waterhouse, Order of the Sun ran up to his true ability when
leading throughout for Chad Schofield before careering away to win the 2800 metre
staying test by a dominant seven lengths.
Order of The Sun may back-up next Saturday in the Group I $500,000 SAJC South
Australia Derby at Morphettville according to stable representative Roger
Elliott.
"He did that nicely and depending on how he comes out of it, Gai is
considering the Derby next week." Elliott said.
Winning rider Chad Schofield was also impressed as you would imagine.
"He bowled along and travelled strongly in my hands for me. He never
dropped the bridle at any stage, he was tough and strong and fit and he ran his
rivals into the ground," Schofield said.
"I think he has enough brilliance to match it with the stronger
three-year-olds. On the feel he gave me today he will be very hard to beat next
week."
A $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Highgrove Stud draft, Order of the
Sun runs for Sun Bloodstock and has won four of nine starts earning more than $185,000
in prizemoney.
A three-quarter brother-in-blood to stakes-winner Risk Aversion, Order of the
Sun is a half-brother to stakes-winner Get to Work and is one of five winners
from Sequin, a three-quarter sister to HK Group I winner Scintillation and
multiple Group II winner Shania Dane.
He is the 102nd stakes-winner for champion sire Encosta de Lago, whose fee has
been set at $38,500 for 2014 by Coolmore.
