The
Geelong meeting on Thursday was highlighted by first wins for a pair of
siblings to well-known Group I winners.
Jason Warren has had a lot of fun with his star Group I winning sprinter Bel
Sprinter, which is no doubt the reason he was happy to pay $140,000 for his full
brother at the Magic Millions in 2012.
Named Bel Rain, the three year-old Bel Esprit colt kicked off his career in the
1200 metre maiden and emerged triumphant on debut.
He pushed forward from the outside gate for Daniel Stackhouse and forged clear
to the line to win in good style.
Bel Rain was consigned for sale by Cornerstone Stud and is the second winner
for Snippets mare Gavroche, who comes from the family of Group I winner Always
Aloof.
Gavroche has had an upgrade in recent years and has a weanling colt by Redoute's
Choice and was covered by Exceed and Excel last spring.
Bob and Rosemary Scarborough of Wood Nook Farm would have been thrilled today
when Indulgence, the half-sister to their former Group I winner Marble Halls,
opened her account with an all the way
win.
Having her fourth start and second run back from a spell, the Anthony Freedman trained
daughter of New Approach (IRE) controlled the race throughout and found the
line well to win the 1300 metre maiden by a length and a half.
Passed in at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale shy of her $100,000 reserve,
Indulgence would hold sentimental value for the Scarborough's as she is the last
foal of their terrific producer Joolzy, who died in 2011.
A placed daughter of Noble Bijou (USA), Joolzy left nine winners from 10
runners with Group I MRC Toorak Handicap winner Marble Halls the best, while
another daughter Tigereye left Group I MRC Blue Diamond winner Sleek Chassis.
