$725,000 Farnan Filly to Run in Ladbroke Racing Colours

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 7

Kia Ora Stud have had great results for their foundation sire Farnan at yearling sales so far this year and the trend continued at Inglis Easter on Sunday when a stunning filly by the Golden Slipper winner from Gypsy Robin (USA) sold for $725,000.

The athletic chestnut was  a favourite with Kia Ora Stud Manager Shane Wright and the half-sister to Group I winner Wild Ruler and Group III winner Pavitra also caught the eye of Henry Field and was knocked down to Ladbrokes Racing Club/ Newgate Bloodstock.

Field has had great success with this family having purchased Wild Ruler as a yearling at this sale in 2019 for $525,000 in partnership with China Horse Club and WinsStar. The son of Snitzel won $2.6million on the track and now stands at Newgate Farm where he has covered 317 mares in his first two seasons at a fee of $38,500 with his first yearlings to be offered in 2025.

Dan Cobby of Ladbrokes Racing was interviewed after the sale by Jemma Cutting and explained the partnership between Ladbrokes and Newgate with their plan to source quality fillies for the racetrack with Newgate to manage their stud careers in the future.

“She will race in the Ladbroke colours and be sent to Matt Vella to be broken in along with the other purchases we have made this year,” Cobby said.

“When you but a filly like this, plenty of trainers express an interest, but we have made no decision on that and will decide where she is going after she is broken in.”
