Snitzel Speed Added to Widden Victoria Roster

Media Release - Thursday April 27

Widden Stud are pleased to announce the addition of sale-topping Group I performed Snitzel colt Bruckner to the roster for 2023.

The top lot at Inglis Premier in 2020 when selling for $725,000, Bruckner was trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, proving a brilliantly fast sprinter in a brief career of just seven starts.

Bruckner is heading to Widden Stud Victoria.

He shot to prominence as a spring three-year-old winning the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes (1200m) at the expense of dual Group I winner Artorius, a race known for producing the likes of Starspangledbanner and Champion Victorian Sire, Bel Esprit.

He then ran a close 3rd in the Group II VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m), a race captured previously by champion sire Fastnet Rock and more recently by outstanding sprinter, Giga Kick.

“Bruckner had so much natural ability, a proper athlete. We never got to see what he could really do,” said David Eustace.

“A magnificent looking animal with unquestioned Group I ability. For me, Bruckner ticks so many boxes. He’s one of the best looking Snitzels you’ll find and was a serious racehorse who we never saw the best of.”

Bruckner followed up with an outstanding performance to beat all bar Home Affairs in a vintage renewal of the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) with seven of the colts that contested the race all standing at major studs this spring. He again defeated Group 1 Blue Diamond winner Artorius, as well as Winterbottom winner Paulele and fellow Snitzel sons in Group I winners In The Congo and Sword Of State.

"We look forward to seeing his progeny on the racetrack in the coming years, hopefully they're as stunning, athletic and talented as he is," said Ciaron Maher.

“Bruckner was a serious talent, he had speed and class in abundance and has the makings of an exciting sire.”

Bruckner stands at a fee of $11,000.

Bruckner has pedigree to back up his good looks and race performance coming from a proven Black Type family with his first two dams by champion racehorse and sire Lonhro and influential Golden Slipper winning sire Rory’s Jester.

Renowned breeder Philip Cambell, who sold Bruckner as a yearling said, “It’s great to see him coming back to Victoria, he’s a cracking looking colt from a family I love and he will be a look and book type stallion for sure.”

Antony Thompson reiterated these comments saying, “We are delighted to add such a stunning looking son of Snitzel to our roster, having toped the Premier sale and performed so well at Flemington in Victoria’s most important sire making race, Victoria is his rightful home.”

Bruckner stands in Victoria at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST
