One To Watch - Scone

Mark Smith - Friday January 27

A $17,000 purchase at the 2021 Inglis June (Early) Online sale, the three-year-old Denman filly Dancedes won that back with interest at her career debut over 900m at Scone on Friday.

Following a pair of impressive barrier trial wins at Muswellbrook, Dancedes went off an odds-on favourite, but it was far from plain sailing.

Ridden by Ashley Morgan for Cameron Crockett, the daughter of Denman was caught in a pocket with 250m to run. Morgan was obliged to restrain Dancedes until Reece Jones swept past on He's Purring.

It took a while for Dancedes to regain momentum, but once she did, she charged home to defeat a rallying He's Purring (Maurice) by a half-neck with the same distance back to Lanks (Flying Artie) in third.

Dancedes is the fourth winner from five to race from the Brisbane-winning Mossman mare Mosscedes.

A half-sister to Group II MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes winner Sovereign Nation, and stakes placegetters Recoinage, Houston Benefactor and Philizzy, Mosscedes is a daughter of Sovereign Duchess, a half-sister to 4-time Group 1 winner Princess Coup.

Michael Costa Racing Pty Ltd / Archer Park Racing bought a Capitalist colt out of Mosscedes for $160,000 from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Mosscedes died last November. Her final foal is a yearling colt by Headwater that has already been named Ride The River.

Twin Hills Stud's Denman just completed his 13th season at stud.

The handsome son of Lonhro has two lots from his home stud on offer at the Inglis Classic.
