Although a starter in the Blue Diamond and Sires Produce, STRATUM STAR rose to the top of his 3YO crop once transferred to DK Weir. A crop that included KERMADEC, WANDJINA and PETROLOGY.

Stratum Star

STRATUM STAR’s resilience was encompassed with an outstanding placing in the Australian Guineas and a luckless 2nd in the Alistair Clark Stakes at the end of an 11-start campaign.

That toughness rolled on into his 4YO and 5YO season where he won the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke and Kingston Town Classic with further placings in the Futurity, Toorak and Australian Cup.

All up, STRATUM STAR went under starters orders on 37 occasions for 8 wins, earning nearly $2.5m in Stakes winnings and there is little doubt that his progeny will follow suit as his eldest turn 4 next month.

In only his Second Season as a sire in a very strong crop, STRATUM STAR is gaining momentum in an elite crop of young sires which includes the likes of Maurice and Capitalist. With 21 individual winners, the telling statistic is that his progeny mimic the sire and have gone on to win 36 races with 78 placings.

Like STRATUM STAR himself, the expectation is that his 1st crop will keep on getting bigger and stronger into their 4-year-old year and the Hong Kong market is already taking note.

Paul Frampton has decided he would like to offer a handful of broodmares to the open market from some great families, selling online with bloodstockaution.com.

These well-bred mares include:

Apamene – A former $240,000 Easter Yearling, this daughter of SEBRING is from Stakes performed European mare and a ½ sister to the mighty Group 1 winning Gary Moore trained TAKEDOWN (by STRATUM).

SEBRING is a Group 1 winning broodmare sire of ON THE BUBBLES and this pregnancy is a 5/8 to a Group 1 Winner. In foal to STRATUM STAR.

Ransack – A daughter of LONHRO from a Stakes winner and a ½ to a Stakes winner. A great looking family that is capable of throwing sale toppers, this mare didn’t “click” with STRATUM STAR and is duly being offered in-foal to YOUR SONG to replicate the same FASTNET ROCK over LONHRO cross as DERRYN and SERENE MAJESTY.

Mocks – An EXCEED AND EXCEL mare that has had 4 named foals and all are winners! From the strong European family of FANTASTIC LIGHT, EXCEED AND EXCEL mares continue to prove their worth accounting for 10 individual Group 1 winners including an Epsom Derby winner in ANTHONY VAN DYCK. In foal to STRATUM STAR.

Waka – 4th in the Listed Connoisseur Stakes at Flemington, WAKA was a talented galloper of nearly $100,000 by DOMESDAY, broodmare sire of TRAPEZE ARTIST. In foal to STRATUM STAR.

Cislunar – A rare opportunity to purchase a Stakes producing mare that is closely related to the Champion 2YO and 3YO MISS FINLAND. Cislunar is a wonderful stamp of a mare that has already produced a Group Winner by AMERICAIN and proven the genetic worth of having as many daughters of REDOUTE’S CHOICE in your broodmare band as is possible.  Ready to be served by a mare of your choice.

Bloodstockauction.com looks forward to these horses being offered in this week’s auction, which goes live this Thursday 28 July at 7.00pm AEST, with the final countdown commencing at 7:00pm AEST on Tuesday 2 August 2022.

For any enquiries on these horses please contact Matt Comerford at Widden Stud on 0424 742 672.
