Making his sixth start for champion trainer Chris Waller, Tales Of Grimm (USA) held off stablemate Amovatio to win Saturday's Listed Spear Chief Handicap (1500m) at Eagle Farm.
It was the 7-year-old gelding's first win since capturing the Listed Scone Cup back in May last year when trained by Sam Kavanagh.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Tales Of Grimm (USA) defeated Amovatio (Al Maher) by three-quarters of a length with Aldini (Magic Albert) a short-neck back in third.
It advances his overall record to 5 wins, 2 seconds, and 1 third from 26 starts for earnings of $345,291.
"It definitely helps to switch the older horses back on when you give them a trip away," Waller told AAP.
"Overwork them and they don't perform but if you keep them fresh like this horse they can often find their best form."
"He's a one-race-at-a-time horse but if there's another suitable race here in three weeks' time we might look at running him again up.
"He's a nice miler, Cup-type of horse and it's just a matter of finding the right races for a horse like him."
The imported son of former shuttler Distorted Humor (USA) had been a handy performer in England when trained by Sir Michael Stoute for owner Sir Robert Ogden and was purchased from the Tattersalls July Sale for 75,000 guineas in 2014.
A full-brother to Group II Zabeel Mile winner Do It All, Tales Of Grimm is out of the Group III winning Dynaformer mare Stupendous Miss a descendant of South Ocean, the dam of champion racehorse and influential stallion Storm Bird and the champion
racemare Northerette.
Three races later Waller struck again with Index Linked (GB) in the Group III Tattersalls Club Cup (2200m).
The 8yo gelding was coming off a run of outs greater than that of Tales Of Grimm (USA).
He had been out of the winners circle for ten starts since saluting in the Caloundra Cup in May last year, one day after the Scone Cup triumph of Tales Of Grimm (USA).
Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Index Linked defeated Tucanchoo (Pentire) by a neck with a further neck back to Malice (Teofilo) in third.
"Index Linked is actually entered for a race in Sydney next Saturday but I will have a rethink," Waller told AAP.
"He won the Caloundra Cup last year and he might stay up here for another crack at it. We will make up our mind early in the week."
"Things haven't always gone his way but he showed with his fifth in the Brisbane Cup at his previous start that he was on the way back," Waller said.
The son of Dansili (pictured) was bought by Townley Hall Bloodstock for 26,000gns at the Tattersalls July Sale and his Tattersalls Club Cup victory was his third stakes win in Australia after the Caloundra Cup and Mornington Cup.
His overall record stands at 12 wins, 7 seconds and 3 thirds from 42 starts for earnings of $880,646.
A half-brother to four winners including the stakes-placed Fully Funded (Aptitude) and Gainful (Gone West), Index Linked is out of the stakes-placed Irish River mare Fully Invested whose stakes-placed dam Shirley Valentine is a half-sister to Epsom Derby winner Commander In Chief, Champion Miler Warning, Group 1 winner Yashmak and the Group II winner Dushyantor.
