Foxwedge in Favour

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 22
A flurry of winners and strong results at recent sales has Newgate Farm's Foxwedge firmly in favour ahead of the 2016 breeding season.

Proven producer Cobbley was the top priced offering at the Inglis Great Southern Mares Sale on Tuesday selling for $110,000 with a positive service to Foxwedge.

FoxwedgeConsigned by Yarran Thoroughbreds and purchase by Queensland based Thoroughbred Union, Cobbley is the dam of Group II placed Get That Jive, so her resulting Foxwedge foal will be a most appealing youngster.

Foxwedge also made his mark at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale with a colt from Celebrity Appeal fetching $115,000 for Glastonbury Farms when secured by Wattle Grove Thoroughbreds.

His popularity in the sale ring has coincided with a string of winners through May and June with Star Empire and Urban Fox scoring in North America and the UK, while Volpe Veloce won a stakes race in New Zealand and Australian winners Foxplay, Foxy Housewife and Mulder have brought his burgeoning tally to 13 winners.

No Australian first season sire has more Southern Hemisphere winners on the board, putting Foxwedge in an enviable position as we move towards spring.

Foxwedge has had a slight fee reduction this year dropping to $22,000, which could represent real value in light of his current upswing.
