Seventh Winner for Sidereus

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 25
The leading Australian first season sire by winners, Sidereus posted his seventh winner at Canterbury on Wednesday with a tenacious victory for El Sid, trained by Anthony Cummings, who also put the polish on his sire.

Fourth at his only previous start back in December behind subsequent Group II winner Astern, El Sid has returned a much stronger commodity.

He showed plenty pf pace before holding on to beat Godolphin blueblood Bezel by a head in the 1100 metre maiden.

El Sid breezing up Street Cry IRE) colt Bezel, the first foal of Group I BRC Doomben 10,000 winner Beaded, charged to the line on debut and will be a red hot favourite when he appears next.

Today, however it was all about El Sid, who was bought from the Inglis The Star Ready 2 Race Sale last year for $105,000 by his trainer and was a successful pinhook for Sam Pritchard-Gordon, who bought the speedy chestnut for just $9,000 at the Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale.

El Sid was a natural runner at the pre-sale breeze ups, dashing up a furlong in 10.57 seconds.

El Sid is the third winner for Madam Lush, a four-time winner by Danehill Dancer (IRE) from the family of dual Group I winner Wahid.

A Group II winning son of General Nediym, Sidereus stands at Oaklands Stud in Queensland.
