Tycoon has become a real 'watch' stallion this year so when he has an
impressive maiden winner with pedigree steeped in speed we like to know more.
Third on debut earlier this month at Cranbourne, the Colin Little trained filly
Powerful Story showed the benefit of that outing when turning in a dominant performance
to win the 1100 metre maiden at Pakenham in a breeze.
She cruised to the front not long after the start and travelled strongly
throughout before changing gear over the final furlongs to dash away and win by
three and a half lengths as a well backed favourite.
A $57,500 NZB Select Sale purchase for her trainer from the Inglewood Stud
draft, Powerful Story runs for owner/breeder Dick Karreman, whose colours were
carried by NZ Horse of the Year Seachange.
She is the first winner for Rich Esprit, a Bel Esprit half-sister to Group III
winner and sire Danerich and smart stakes-winning three year-old Redzel from Golden
Slipper place-getter Millrich.
From a family noted for speed and blessed with a pedigree featuring a double
cross of Vain, Powerful Story might find herself winning better races than
this.
