Stellar Assortment of Sires at NZB National Sale

The progeny of some of Australasia's most exciting stallions feature in the catalogue for next month's National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale at Karaka, including the recent addition of a filly by Champion sire Savabeel.

The supplementary entry,Lot 541, is the only weanling in the Sale by Savabeel. Offered by Little Avondale Stud, the filly is out of the Elusive Quality mare Kahurangi, a half-sister to Group 1 KrisFlyer Sprint winnerGreen Birdie(NZ).

SavabeelSavabeel lifted his tally of individual Group 1 winners to 11 with the recent Easter Stakes victory bySound Proposition(NZ). Other leading performers this season for the Waikato Stud sensation include three-time Group 1 winnerKawi(NZ) and the dominant A$4m Queen Elizabeth Stakes heroineLucia Valentina(NZ).

Buyers will have one other opportunity to secure the offspring of Savabeel with the Group 1 placed Volksraad mare Corsage,Lot 439, in foal to the popular sire. The budding broodmare sire also hasfourof his daughters catalogued as broodmares.

Savabeel has had to share the stallion headlines with the remarkable Cambridge Stud sire Tavistock, whose service fee has soared from $7,000 to $65,000 in less than three years, due to the racetrack feats of his Group 1 winning offspringVolkstok'n'barrell(NZ),Tarzino(NZ),Tavago(NZ) and the Hong Kong superstarWerther(NZ).

Tavistock features prominently in the Sale with13 weanlingscatalogued, plus 10 broodmares who are in foal to the son of Montjeu.

Savabeel and Tavistock are currently ranked first and fifth in the current New Zealand sires' premiership, with other leading siresDarci Brahma,IffraajandPinsalso set to have a strong presence at Karaka in May.

There is one weanling in the Sale byI Am Invincible, who has become hot property in his brief career to date with 11 stakes winners including the Group 1 winnerBrazen Beau.

Haunui Farm's Showcasing, sire of $1m Karaka Million winnerHardline(NZ) who was a graduate of the Sale, has10 weanlingscatalogued while Little Avondale's young sire Per Incanto has the largest draft of weanlings with18 lots.

The Sale will represent the passing of the torch from the late, great Waikato Stud stallionO'Reillyto his exciting young son. The final weanling progeny of O'Reilly will go through the ring with colts out of Barbara Ann (Lot 115) and Mexican Rose (Lot 263). At the same time, his four-time Group 1-winning son Sacred Falls will make something of a debut as three broodmares in foal to him go through the ring.
