Well
known owner breeder Joe O'Gara of Tobermory Stud passed away last Friday with
the funeral held today in Goulburn.
O'Gara raced a long list of horses in his
familiar colours
of red with a green shamrock, most of them sired by the stallions he stood,
firstly Air de France (USA) and then in later years Song of Tara (IRE).
Air De France sired somequality gallopers including Group I performers
Air Seattle, Bomber Bill and Super
Slew, while Song of Tara, proved a fine source of stayers with a liking for wet
ground, the best of themSydney Cup winner No Wine No Song.
Bred and retained to race by O'Gara, No Wine No Song (pictured Steve Hart) was trained by Kevin Moses
and won over $1.4 million in prizemoney.
A breeder not swayed by commercial trends, O'Gara marched to his own beat achieving notable success.
