Mark Smith - Thursday April 28

The stark reality is that the current crop of stallions with their first runners, after being hailed collectively as the most exciting in recent years, is on track to set a new low this century in earnings for the champion first crop sire.

Moving into the back end of the season we still have Love Conquers All leading on prizemoney ($311,250) and Sidereus leading the way for number of individual winners (5).

Smart Missile has been given every chance with an average of 200 mares in his first four crops.

We are tipping he will celebrate his first Australian stakes-winner on Saturday to go with his New Zealand stakes-winner Sassy 'N' Smart.

The Leon and Troy Corstens-trained Fromparis Withlove had her supporters when making her career debut at Caulfield on April 23.

Don't worry about her 8th of 11 finish. She was stood on her head when full of running and went to the line untested.

She gets her chance to redeem herself at Caulfield on Saturday when taking on the boys in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup (1200m).

Consigned by Kambula Stud to the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling sale,  Fromparis Withlove (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Malua Bloodstock Pty Ltd/Bahen Bloodstock for $140,000, which was just about the average for mammoth 132 yearlings by Smart Missile offered in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

Fromparis Withlove is the fifth foal of the stakes-winning Umatilla mare Umaquest whose four wins included the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes at Flemington for trainer Mark Minevini.

Umaquest's dam Carmenesque (Scenic) was also well above average winning six races in Melbourne and was stakes-placed.

Smart Missile has just the one winner from 30 starters in Australia so a stakes win would be welcomed by his throng of supporters.
