Currently
the leading two year-old sire in the country by earnings thanks to his star son
Capitalist, Written Tycoon added a new stakes-winner to his tally when talented
mare Shakespearean Lass upstaged her male rivals to win the Listed MRC WJ Adams
Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday less than an hour after her half-brother Dan Zephyr
won the previous race.
The Pat Carey trained Shakespearean Lass has built a tidy record as she has
progressed through the grades, but was tackling Black Type for the first time
in this 1000 metre sprint.
Specced in the betting at long odds, she raced up on the pace for Rhys McLeod
and stuck to her guns to win by half a head.
Four year-old Shakespearean Lass is one of four winners from Eliza Dream, whose
five year-old gelding by Danbird, Dan Zephyr, won the previous race over 1400
metres, both horses trained by Pat Carey.
"It's good for the owners, having bred both of those horses. Good on
them," McLeod said. "She's got black type now and it goes a long way.
"We ended up having a lovely run. We peeled off their backs at the top of
the straight and she was too strong."
Shakespearean Lass is the 13th stakes-winner for Written Tycoon, but
the first for her dam Eliza Dream, who sadly died last year.
Eliza Dream has a Magnus yearling colt and a colt foal by Lucas Cranach (Ger).
Shakespearean Lass is the third Australian stakes-winner this season for
Woodside Park's Written Tycoon, who is on a sharp upward spiral and
had three winners at Caulfield with Grande Rosso and Written also saluting.
He covered 184 mares last spring at a fee of $19,800 and has four yearlings in
the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
