After jumping smartly from his outside barrier, Extreme Choice merely ambled to the front under Damien Oliver.
A simple flick of the reins was all that was needed to put the race to bed. With ears pricked the son of Not A Single Doubt crossed the line four and a half lengths ahead of Highland Beat (Exceed And Excel) with Gatwick (Reward For Effort) three-quarters of a length back in third.(photo Grant Courtney).
"He's just a little dash horse," winning trainer Mick Price said.
"It was probably the right race to run in I didn't feel the need to run in the 1100m.
"When Ollie let him go to the front he pricked his ears and had a relax.
"He was strong through the line and the time was good. As far as the Blue Diamond is concerned you would think he'd be able to come out and put himself there without being too aggressive about it," Price said.
"I suppose the question is how he will be at the end of 1200 metres but who cares, he's a nice horse."
Consigned to the Inglis Classic Summer Yearling sale by Bell River Thoroughbreds, Extreme Choice was knocked down to Mick Price for $100,000.
A brother to the 3-time winner Raise No Doubt, he is the fourth foal of the unraced Hussonet (USA) mare Extremely who was purchased by Bell River Thoroughbreds for $30,000, when carrying Extreme Choice, from the Arrowfield draft at the 2013 Easter Broodmare sale. Her dam, Going To Extremes (USA) (Nast And Bold), was an 11-time winner in Canada including the Grade II Royal North Handicap at Woodbine.
Extremely has a yearling filly by Duporth and a colt foal by Smart Missile.
Not A Single Doubt has five lots catalogued for the Inglis Classic Yearling sale beginning later today, seven heading to the Inglis Premier Yearling sale, two at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling sale and two lots at the flagship Easter Yearling sale.
