1.6 Million for Fastnet Rock Oaks Winner

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 2
Fastnet Rock's Epsom Oaks winning daughter Qualify is heading to the Darley broodmare band after setting the sale ring alight at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale overnight.

QualifyThe Aidan O'Brien trained Qualify made history for her champion sire earlier this year when becoming his first Northern Hemisphere bred Group I winner and proved very attractive in the sale ring selling for 1.6 million guineas.

She was bought by John Ferguson Bloodstock and is the second Epsom Oaks winner he has bought here in recent years following Dancing Rain, who fetched 4 million guineas when offered in foal to Frankel in 2013.

"It is always lovely to have an Oaks winner," Ferguson said afterwards. "She is a lovely, scopey mare who was a very good racehorse and her Oaks-winning day was extraordinary.

"I have one or two ideas as to covering plans, but the boss will decide."

Qualify (click here to see her pedigree) is the best of three winners from Galileo mare Perihelion, who comes from the family of numerous Group I winners including Champion 3YO Workforce.

A full report on the sale will be published later this morning.
