Golden Slipper dreaming starts right now with the first
official two year-old trial of the season at Rosehill on Tuesday morning being
won by a first crop son of Newgate Farm's foundation sire Foxwedge.
Prepared by Tony McEvoy and ridden by Hugh Bowman, two year-old colt Chain Shot
showed real talent when finding the line well, albeit greenly, to win the 900
metre heat by a nose.
"He's here today because he blessed with natural ability and a great willing
attitude," said Tony McEvoy.
"He's got a beautiful action and he's got a stack of upside going forward."
A $95,000 Magic Millions purchase for Topline Thoroughbreds/ McEvoy Mitchell Racing
from the Edinglassie draft, Chain Shot is a half-brother to four other winners
from the good producer Spinnaker (GB).
Entered for the Golden Slipper, Chain Shot is one of 57 two year-olds by
Foxwedge that have their eye on the world's richest two year-old race to be run
in March next year.
The first two year-old races in Sydney will be conducted at Randwick on October
3 when the Listed ATC Breeders Plate (1000m) will be contested by the colts and
geldings, while the fillies clash in the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes (1000m).
A fast and precocious two year-old that won on debut at Rosehill on November
20, Foxwedge has a plethora of promising youngsters in work that are pleasing
their trainers, so the early emergence of Chain Shot is not unexpected.
Foxwedge stands his fourth season at a fee of $27,500 and looks an astute
choice this spring for aspirational broodmare owners looking to punt a young
sire on the up.
