The amazing late season rally by Glenlogan Park's first
season stallion Rothesay continued on at Doomben, Morphettville and the Gold
Coast on Saturday.
Getting the ball
rolling was the David Murphy-trained Shotacross The Bow who scored in the Past
President's Two Year Old (1640m) to make it three wins from his past four
starts.
Given a positive ride by Brad Stewart, Shotacross The Bow
took up the lead and was never seriously threatened in defeating Wicked
Snippets by one and a half lengths with Honesta three-quarters of a length away
in third.
A winner at Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast, Shotacross The
Bow had a taste against stakes company when unplaced behind the promising Gai
Waterhouse-trained Harlem River in the Listed Tattersalls Stakes at the Gold
Coast on June 20.
Murphy believes the son of Rothesay can stretch out to the
classic distance as a 3-year-old.
"He is a Magic Millions horse and I could bring him
back for the Guineas at that carnival in January. I also think he might make a
Queensland Derby horse in the winter next year," Murphy told AAP.
A $60,000 purchase by his trainer from the Glenlogan Park
draft at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Shotacross The Bow
is a half-sister to two good winner in the stakes-placed Upshot (Stratum) and
the 5-time winner Imagery (More Than Ready.
Her dam, the unraced Mossman mare Reshhot, is a
three-quarter sister to Listed winner Snapshots (Success Express) and Express A
Smile (Success Express) the dam of triple Group 1 winner Sea Siren (Fastnet
Rock) and the Group II winner Lady Dehere (Dehere).
Shortly after Shotacross the Bow continued on his winning
way, the Tony McEvoy-trained Jacksay did likewise with a narrow win in the
Hughes Chauffeured Limos Hcp (1400m) at Morphettville Park.
The 2-year-old gelding had broken his maiden just seven days
ago at Gawler.
Another Glenlogan Park graduate from the same sale that produced
Shotacross The Bow, Jacksay came at double the cost, $120,000, to the bid of McEvoy
Mitchell Racing.
He is a half-brother to three winners including the Listed
winner and Group 1 placed Upilio (Lion Hunter) and the stakes-placed Safe
Sanctuary (Iglesia).
Rothesay's day just was made even better when the John
Morrisey-trained Honey Ko broke her maiden at her third start over 900 metres
at the Gold Coast.
Giving Glenlogan Park graduates a winning treble, Honey Ko
failed to make her modest $20,000 reserve at the Magic Millions March Yearling
sale.
With 12 individual 2-year-old winners to date, Rothesay (pictured) heads
into the final few weeks of the season as the leading First Season sire for
number of winners.
