The
Coolmore team were back in the winner's circle again at Newmarket overnight
with three year-old Danehill Dancer filly Legatissimo claiming victory in the
English 1,000 Guineas just 24 hours after their Galileo colt Gleneagles won the
colt's equivalent.
Carrying the same blue and orange colours of part-owner Michael Tabor, but
trained by David Wachman, Legatissimo enjoyed a perfect ride from Ryan Moore to
beat the Godolphin Darley homebred Shamardal filly Lucida by three quarters of
a length.
"Winning two Guineas in a weekend is what you dream about. I never thought
it would happen but it did," said Michael Tabor.
Stakes-placed at two from just three starts, Legitissimo came into this race
off a last start win in a Listed race at Gowran Park over nine and a half
furlongs a week ago, so was always going to be strong at the trip.
"She's a lovely, big scopy filly and Ryan gave her a nice ride. We've
always liked her and we weren't concerned coming back in trip," said David
Wachman.
"We were worried we were running her back too quickly but we thought we'd
take our chance. She'll get further but we'll discuss where we go next. She's a
very good filly."
Yet another Group I winner for her now pensioned sire Danehill Dancer,
Legatissimo was bred by Newsells Park and bought for 350,000 guineas by MV Magnier
as a yearling at Tattersalls.
She is stoutly bred on her dam's side being from the winning Montjeu mare Yummy
Mummy, a sister to five time Group I winner and Champion Stayer Fame and Glory.
It's also the family of handy imported stayer Greatwood (GB), a stakes-winner
for the Gai Waterhouse stable this season.
