Tenth Group One Winner for Bernardini

Media Release - Sunday May 3
With all eyes on Churchill Downs, Bernardini filly Dame Dorothy shined on the big stage with a powerful win in the Group I Humana Distaff.

Dame Dorothy became the second Darley-sired winner of the race in three years, after Street Sense filly Aubby K won in 2013.

BernardiniIn the 1400m race, Dame Dorothy settled under a hold in fourth, just a few lengths off the pace. The four-year-old mare honed in on the lead around the far turn, gaining ground traveling three-wide, and then battled down the lane to prove best in the final stages.

Dame Dorothy was a $390,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase for Bobby Flay, and is out of the Woodman mare Vole Vole Monamour, who has also produced G1 E.P. Taylor and G1 Prix Vermeille winner Mrs. Lindsay. She was bred by Derry Meeting Farm.

Dame Dorothy marks the 10th G1 winner for her sire Bernardini, whose other top runners include triple G1 winner Boban, back-to-back G1 Travers winners Stay Thirsty and Alpha, multiple G1 winner To Honor And Serve, and his full-sister, G1 Chandelier Stakes winning-filly Angela Renee.

Bernardini will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $27,500 which is the lowest fee he has stood for in Australia since he started shuttling here in 2008.
