Champion
US Two and Three Year Old Lookin at Lucky (USA) only shuttled to Australia for
one Southern Hemisphere season and posted his first winner in Australia on
Saturday at Newcastle with progressive colt Rhode Assassin.
Prepared by Anthony Cummings, Rhode Assassin stepped up to 1500 metres for the
first time at his third run back from a break and beat older rivals to win with
authority by two and a half lengths.
A $60,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the draft of Coolmore,
Rhode Assassin was bred by well-known bloodstock agent and Coolmore Sales and
Nominations Manager Colm Santry and is another smart winner to have been raised
and grazed at Coolmore.
Rhode Assassin is likely to tackle Black Type for his next assignment with the
Group III ATC Fernhill Stakes at Randwick next month over 1600 metres a likely
target.
He is the second winner for Rhode Island Red (USA), a placed half-sister to US
Group I winner Habibti.
Rhode Island Red has a colt foal by So You Think and was covered last spring by
Epsom Derby hero Camelot (IRE).
A leading second season sire in North America where his oldest offspring are
three year-olds, Lookin at Lucky has left smart stakes-winners Lucky Player,
Maybellene, Four Leaf Chief and Good Luck Gus.
