First Winner for Monaco Consul

Mark Smith - Sunday March 1

Relegated to third place by stewards at her career debut at the Gold Coast, Favoured Grace travelled north to the Sunshine Coast to break her maiden on Sunday to credit Patinack Farm's Monaco Consul with his first winner.

Settled just off the pace by Matthew McGuren, Favoured Grace finished best to defeat the first starter Lady No More (Onemorenomore) by a long-neck with odds-on favourite Skater Girl (Bradbury's Luck) three-quarter of a length back in third.

Trainer Bruce Hill paid $15,000 to secure Favoured Grace from the Lyndhurst Stud Farm draft at the Magic Million March yearling sale.

A half-sister to three winners she is the fourth foal of the winning Favorite trick mare Favorite Lass a daughter of the multiple Group II winner Adeewin (Snaadee) a sister to Group II Reisling Slipper winner Fatoon the dam of Group 1 Epsom Handicap winner Fat Al.

A first crop son of High Chaparral, Monaco Consul won the Group I VRC Victoria Derby and Group I AJC Spring Champion Stakes and placed in the Caulfield Cup, AJC Derby and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

He covered 101 mares in his first season although his support has fallen away in recent years and with the dispersal of the Patinack broodmares last year he covered just 14 mares.
