Medaglia D'Oro Gelding Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Monday January 26

Darley Stud's highly regarded stallion Medaglia D'Oro (USA) had his third Australian stakes-winner when Godolphin's 3-year-old gelding Java made it four wins in a row in Monday's Group III Thomas North Manfred Stakes (1300m) at Sportingbet Park Sandown.

Ridden by Damien Oliver for Anthony and Lee Freedman, Java came clear to defeat the Fastnet Rock colt Petrology by one and a quarter lengths with Affirmation (Not A Single Doubt) back in third.

Java completed a stakes double for the Freedmans and Godolphin after Reparations won Listed John Dillon Stakes.

"They (Godolphin) are great supporters," Freedman said. "We don't get a lot of numbers but the ones we do get, we do pretty well with and this can only help."

The win took the overall record of Java to 4 wins from 6 starts for earnings of $155,050.

A half-brother to Group III SAJC Auraria Stakes winner Crucial (Nadeem) and the promising 2yo colt Antelucan (Domesday), who won the Group III VRC Emirates Airline Plate at Flemington when making his career debut in November, Java is out of the imported Fantastic Light mare Dawn Attack a half-sister to triple Group 1 winner Desert King (IRE) the sire of Makybe Diva and Desert War.

Dawn Attack died in November 2013. Her final foal is a yearling colt by Helmet.
