However, Haunui Farm's Class of 2011 i.e. current three-year-olds born, raised and/or sold by Haunui, look set to become one of the most successful crops produced by the farm for a number of years with four stakes performers among them so far and further success most certainly on the horizon.
Weanling sale graduate Belle Miraaj (NZ) (Iffraaj) was unbeaten in three starts at two and made her three-year-old debut with a third in the Listed Ray Coupland Stakes. Part of an Iffraaj trifecta in that race finishing behind Riding Shotgun and Le Veuve, Belle Miraaj became Group One-performer number nine for her sire in 2013/2014 when third in the 1000 Guineas.
Yearling sale graduates Vavasour (NZ) (Redoute's Choice), Purcentage (Aus) (Onemorenomore) and Magic Moment (NZ) (Don Eduardo) have also all added their names to Haunui's stakes performers list either at two or three, a list which has seen over 30 black type performers in the last five years.
Haunui's class of 2011 has seen eighteen winners so far including the Stephen Marsh-trained Sardaaj (NZ) (Iffraaj) who is a likely contender to add her name to Haunui's list of stakes performers later today when she lines up in the Group Three Wellington Stakes at Otaki after winning two from two in impressive fashion so far.
Wednesday racing saw a trio of new winners added to the Haunui haul with Shezelusive (NZ) (Elusive City) and Bonnie Belle (NZ) (Keeper) both coming up trumps at Te Aroha for Wexford and Ballymore Stables respectively whilst across the Tasman, Amarela was a winner on debut at Bendigo for Nigel Blackiston.
Haunui Farm's Managing Director, Mark Chitty says, "I don't think we have had a crop of young horses with these types of results on the board leading into Christmas for some time. And, what is most pleasing is that these horses were all born and raised from our base here on the Karaka.
"Four of the crop are stakes performers so far and Sardaaj looks very likely to add to that tally all going well today. In Singapore Touch Me Knot is three from three for Michael Clements and Binary who we sold on behalf of Don and Rochelle McLaren, won on debut for Team Hawkes last week.
"It is pretty exciting to have a young crop of horses that have already put some very good results on the board and we and our clients are in for some exciting times ahead if these horses can reach the levels that their trainers have indicated."
