A winning Victorian double for Pentire (GB) this week
served as another timely reminder of the Rich Hill Stud stallion's consistency
and durability.
A member of New Zealand's elite group of stallions for a number of years, he
enjoyed another rewarding Melbourne spring carnival with Prince Of Penzance (Gr
2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup) and Atacama (Listed Premium Stakes) among his leading
lights.
The sire of 12 individual Group One winners from 1200 to 3200 metres, Pentire produced
another pair of potential black type winners at Wednesday's Bendigo meeting.
Impressive debutant Amarela, a $70,000 Karaka yearling, is a possible Gr 1
Australasian Oaks prospect for trainer Nigel Blackiston and is likely to have
one more outing this preparation before returning for an autumn campaign.
She is out of the Danehill mare Chickens from the family of the former champion
filly and Gr 1 VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume.
The Chris Waller-prepared Yellen is also a promising filly and she followed up
her debut second at Kilmore with a tidy victory over 1400 metres.
She is out of the Galileo mare Bound To Impress, who is a daughter of the Gr 1
Easter Handicap winner Honour Bound, and was a $34,000 weanling purchase at
Karaka.
Rich Hill will present two Pentire colts and a filly during the Premier session
of the 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales, including
the first foal (Lot 291) of the Gr 1 Levin Classic runner-up Blinding.
He hails from a family noted for its versatility with Gr 1 Railway Handicap
winner Coogee Walk and the Auckland and Sydney Cups placegetter Mr Tipsy in its
ranks.
Another colt (Lot 68) is out of Thorn Park mare Miss Thorn, a multiple winner
and Group Two placed, while the filly (Lot 293) is a daughter of the Fasliyev
mare Bluegrass, a half-sister to the Gr 3 Sandown Stakes winner Any Rhythm,
from the family of the Group One-winning Pentire mare Zarita.
