Commands Colt Pulls Off A Shock in WA Guineas

Mark Smith - Saturday November 22
Commands colt Rommel pulled off a $21 shocker when ending the winning run of Disposition in Saturday's Group II WA Guineas (1600m) at Ascot.

Ridden by Steven Parnham Rommel held off Disposition by a half-length with Say Geronimo three-quarters of a length away in third.

After three disappointing runs this preparation, Rommel indicated a return to form when a length second to Disposition in the Fairetha Stakes at his most recent start.

"He gave the impression early on that he was a really nice horse," winning trainer Neville Parnham told Sky Racing.

"Twelve months ago on this day, he won at his first race start and I made a statement that day that I thought he was my Guineas horse and to have pulled it off 12 months later is a real achievement."

The Group I Kingston Town Classic on December 6 has been penciled in for Rommel.

A $140,000 purchase by his trainer from the Willow Park draft at the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling sale, Rommel is the third foal of I'mtoogoodtobetrue (USA) (Good And Tough) whose seven wins in North America includes five at stakes level.

She is a half-sister to three other multiple stakes winners including Folly May Pay (Twining) the dam of champion 3yo colt in Puerto Rico, Elprendedor.

I'mtoogoodtobetrue (USA) has a 2yo filly by Not A Single Doubt and a yearling colt by Smart Missile. Tragically she died in June after being covered by Command again last season.

Rommel becomes the 65th stakes winner for Commands who died suddenly on July 12 at Darley's Kelvinside Stud.
