Duporth Colt Impresses On Debut

Mark Smith - Saturday November 15

Carrying the colours of his Group 1 winning sire Duporth, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Paceman lived up to his big wraps with a no fuss win in Saturday's Cellarbrations Appin Plate (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The Peter and Wendy Moran homebred was sent out an odds on favourite on the back of a sparkling barrier trial win at Randwick back on October 31.

He didn't take to kindly to Josh Parr restraining him early but when peeled three wide on the turn he gathered in the leaders Right Of Way and Philosophy to win throttled down.

"It's good to get him to the races he's a horse we have had a big opinion of for a long time," Peter Snowden said.

"We just wanted to make sure when they go there they show what they have been showing us at home and he certainly did that today.

"We might look at giving him one more run before a break,"

"A win there would give him the prizemoney boost for the autumn and take the pressure off a bit."

Paceman is the fifth foal of the Flying Spur mare Snaps who placed in four of her seven race starts without winning.

Her dam Snapshots, by Success Express (USA), won the Listed Keith Mackay Handicap.

Paceman carries a double cross of Success Express the sire of the outstanding racemare Staging who is the dam of Duporth (pictured).

The well-travelled Success Express spent some time at the Moran's now dispersed Noble Park Stud in Queensland.
